FABRIC YARDAGE CALCULATOR

This calculator gives you a quick reference and approximate yardage requirements for most female styles of all sizes

It is aimed at guesstimating the fabric yardage for some of the clothes you sew.

One very important thing before going about to buy fabric is to get the measurements of the body right.

Fabric is usually measured by yards.

The width of the fabric is usually by 36 inch, 45 inch, 54 inch,60 inch, 72 inch.

the most commonly found are 36 and 45

And that is what we have used in this calculator.

However if you have a width of more than 45 feel free to input in the feed.

This calculator assumes you’re using a plain fabric;
For fabrics with panels, lace fabrics with defined patterns,one way prints, or cutting fabric on the bias, matching prints/ patterns these guesstimates will not apply, you’re required to add some extra inches or yard.

Making clothes with printed/patterned fabrics require more yardage when matching the prints exactly.

When making clothes with plain fabric with lining fabric quantities will be the same for lining and main fabric.

But with patterned fabric, there may be a drop pattern and you have to join them correctly so you may need more of the patterned fabric than the plain fabric.hence the above suggestion to add some inches (or 25% extra of the yardage recommended for you in the calculator)

This calculator did not put into consideration the volume ot style of sleeves , extra designs like pepulm,bow etc

also put this into consideration by adding extra inches to accomodate this.

the calculator can only be used when you can determine the desired inches in width of the biggest circumference,like panelled skirt,straight skirt or dress,top etc).
